Critical Conversations: Contraception in Sickle Cell Disease
October 17, 20247:00 PM VirtualJoin The Sickle Cell Reproductive Health Education Directive (SCRED) for their next Critical Conversation Webinar series.
Exploring the contraception options that exist for you with sickle cell disease could feel like a daunting task. You want to know what options will not increase your stroke risk, while preventing pregnancy, or even calming cramps and menstruation complications.
On June 4th, we'll be joined with Dr. Maayan Leroy-Melamed M.D, MPH, FAAP and Dr. Andrea Roe M.D, MPH in our critical conversation series, to demystify how contraception works and explore options beyond the popular depo shot. Dr. Maayan focuses on areas that are particularly critical for teenagers such as menstrual disorders, gynecological and reproductive health issues, etc. We kick off at 7PM EST. We are excited for you to join us!
This event is centered around six core objectives:
Define Reproductive Justice and its applications around people with sickle cell
Recognize barriers to reproductive choices in sickle cell disease
Identify referral pathways for prenatal and contraceptive care
Assess common contraindications and side effects of specific contraceptive options
Weigh risks and benefits of injectable contraception (depot medroxyprogesterone acetate) in the context of sickle cell disease
Applications of the best contraceptive options in consideration of sickle cell
We ask that everyone attending virtually to please register with SCRED in Streamyard.
